Sites That Accept Bitcoin Can Leave Trail and Compromise Anonymity

Princeton University researchers have found out that Bitcoin transactions can easily be connected to a user’s cookies, thus compromising anonymity.

One of the frequently cited advantages of Bitcoin is its anonymity. However, as privacy researchers Dillon Reisman, Steven Goldfeder, Harry Kalodner and Arvind Narayanan showed in a study, even small amounts of transaction information can be used to infer user identity.

They also discovered that out of 130 Bitcoin-accepting merchants, 53 leak payment information, and some may even unintentionally expose exact transaction details on the blockchain to a number of trackers.
