Apple’s New Health Records API Seeks to Provide Greater Privacy

Jason Morely, an Apple Health Team software engineer, said last week that the company’s has taken great efforts to make its newly launched Health Records API secure and respectful of the patient’s privacy.

Morely says that Apple informs its users what it means to share that data with the app and how sensitive it is. Speaking at the Worldwide Developers Conference 2018, he further revealed that users will be shown a new permission sheet specific to clinical types so they can choose the types of data they want to share with an app.

He also told the developers that Apple also presents a new purpose string and the app’s privacy policy in the app explanation section which will give developers the opportunity to explain to users why their app needs access to particular data, what is going to be done with it, and how the data will be protected.
