15 Jun Facebook Announces New Ad Targeting Privacy Safeguards
Facebook unveiled this week new policies and controls which seek to inform its users better about how they are targeted with advertising.
The company says that starting July 2, advertisers will be required to disclose if they obtained information from a data broker that led to them to serving a particular user with an ad. They will also have to give assurance that the data vendor had obtained legally required consent from the consumers whose data they are handling.
However, Facebook director of product marketing Graham Mudd says that the company is not taking a position on whether third-party data is inherently good or bad, but rather only insist on the importance of having the right to use the data and for it to have been sourced responsibly.
