18 May Internet Address Industry Pressured to Implement Rushed WHOIS Policy
It was reported that DNS overseer ICANN has told internet companies under contract with the WHOIS policy to implement its new draft before May 25 in order to be compliant with the GDPR privacy legislation.
However, it was noted that companies are going to have a difficult time with the implementation since the draft was changed three days after it was first published, and further changes may still be applied after its final approval.
A number of companies had already voiced their frustration since several critical aspects of the new policy remain undecided, and the entire policy is also set to expire in 90 days after which it may either be extended or tweaked to include more changes to align ICANN closer to the new law.
