German Interior Minister Vows Answers on Hacking Incident

German Interior Minister Horst Seehofer promised this week to provide clarity on the massive data breach that had exposed the personal data and documents of Chancellor Angela Merkel and hundreds of other German politicians and public figures.

German political parties are reportedly criticizing the BSI which said that it only became aware of the full extent of the breach last Saturday, despite BSI chief Arne Schönbohm statements saying that the agency had already known about isolated breaches in early December.

Green party parliamentary leader Anton Hofreiter demanded that Schönbohm explain himself in an extraordinary parliamentary committee meeting, while deputy leader of business-friendly Free Democrats (FDP), Wolfgang Kubicki, called for the BSI chief’s resignation.
