Google Facial Recognition Lawsuit Dismissed in the US

Earlier this week, US District Judge Edmond Chang in Chicago dismissed a case which accused Google of violating Illinois privacy laws.

Plaintiffs said that Google’s facial recognition software violated the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act when it collected and stored users’ images without their permission via Google Photos.

The judge granted the search giant a motion for summary judgment, saying the court lacked “subject matter jurisdiction because plaintiffs have not suffered concrete injuries.”
