11 Oct Google Launches New Smartphone Amidst Privacy Debacle
Google fearlessly launched its new Pixel 3 smartphone this week despite its recent Google+ privacy scandal where the data of an estimated 500,000 users had been compromised.
Carolina Milanesi of Creative Strategies consultancy remarked that the move was an attempt to promote the “best of Google”, since the value proposition of the handsets is not just in the hardware, but the whole Google experience.
Although Google’s Pixel phones had received generally positive reviews in the past, they are still considered as niche products. Milanesi adds that even though the shutdown of Google+ will not affect the Pixel, its value may be perceived negatively by users who are beginning to doubt Google because of its recent privacy issues.
