Millions of US Mortgage, Banking Documents Left Exposed Online

Earlier in January, cybersecurity expert Bob Diachenko reported finding an unprotected server containing 24 million mortgage and banking records which had been exposed for around two weeks.

Diachenko reported to TechCrunch that the server “had more than a decade’s worth of data, containing loan and mortgage agreements, repayment schedules and other highly sensitive financial and tax documents that reveal an intimate insight into a person’s financial life.”

The some of the documents are believed to be from Citigroup, Wells Fargo, Capital One, and the Department of Housing and Urban Development, among others.
