OAIC Breach Report Calls Out Australian Private Health Providers

The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) reported this week in its first full quarterly update since the Notifiable Data Breach scheme (NDB) came into force that private health sector is still the most breached sector with 49 cases.

It was also the only sector criticized for insider threats, with three breaches categorized under the rogue employee or insider threat banner. Additionally, around 59% of the breaches within health was caused by human error.

The report follows the efforts of the Australian government to downplay privacy and security concerns over its centralized digital health record system, My Health Record.
