Parenting Website Fined for Selling Data to Labour Party

The UK’s Information Commissioner’s Office revealed that it will be penalizing parenting website Emma’s Diary £140,000 for illegally sharing the data of around a million people to the Labour Party.

The website for pregnant women was found to have sold the data under Lifecycle Marketing for use in the 2017 general elections without proper disclosure.

However, the firm refuted the accusations and said that the ICO did not give the company a chance to explain before the report was finished.

While it is common practice for political parties to purchase personal information for their campaigns, appropriate consent first has to be obtained by the providers.
