Political, Religious Ties Dropped from National ID Bicam Report

Rep. Sol Aragones revealed last Thursday that it was decided upon that political, religious and “philosophical” affiliations had to be removed from the bicameral conference report on the national identification system.

Aragones, a co-author of the measure, said that they wanted to require only the basic information so that people will not think that their privacy is being invaded. She also confirmed that providing mobile numbers and email addresses will not be mandatory under the measure.

However, critics such as ACT Teachers party-list Rep. Antonio Tinio said that the measure brought the country closer to being a police state where citizens can be stopped on the streets and asked for their identification.
