Privacy Fears Prompt Users to Delete Their Social Media Accounts

According to a recent study by PR consultancy firm Edelman, around four in 10 users have deleted a social media account in the past year due to privacy concerns.

The research, published last Monday, shows a serious lack of trust in social media such as Facebook and Twitter and Edelman says that consumers expect brands that advertise on those platforms to pressure these companies to address the problem of fake news and offensive content.

9,000 respondents from Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, the United Arab Emirates, U.K. and U.S. were polled for the study that was published as part of the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity in France.
