Software Used for Nova Scotia’s FOI Website Presents Privacy Risks

It was discovered through a recent assessment that the software used to operate Nova Scotia’s freedom of information website presented high risks to data privacy and security.

The KPMG found that someone had been able to download around 7,000 documents, including several hundred containing personal information that should have been redacted, from the troubled FOI website just by changing the web address.

The KPMG also reported that the perpetual retention of the original documents, as well as the verification information submitted by users, on the freedom of information website is high and could potentially be a privacy violation.
