Tech Lobby Pushes for National Privacy Norms

Dean Garfield, president of the Information Technology Industry Council commented this week that faster development of national privacy standards was needed to avoid divergent state rules.

On the sweeping privacy law that California recently passed, Garfield said that fragmentation among states can be avoided by quickly passing standards and norms that are broadly applicable.

It was noted that the ITI, which is the trade group that represents companies including Alphabet Inc. and Microsoft Corp., had largely been silent on recent privacy debates concerning the California push.
