Town of Salem Game Exposes Information of 7.6 Million Gamers

In a blog post this week, BlankMediaGames (BMG) admitted that it had been hit by a data breach which exposed the personal details of around 7.6 million of its users.

An unknown individual had reportedly sent a copy of the stolen information to DeHashed, a commercial data breach indexing service which said that it did look like data exfiltrated from the servers of a game called Town of Salem.

DeHashed, which runs a service similar to HaveIBeenPwned, confirmed that the stolen data included usernames, email addresses, passwords in the (phpass, MD5(WordPress), MD5(phpBB3)) format, IP addresses, game & forum activity. However, payment information or credit card details were not compromised and BMG confirmed that they do not handle financial data at all.
