TransUnion Suspended in Hong Kong Until Security Issues Addressed

Consumer credit reporting agency TransUnion said this week that its online services in Hong Kong has been suspended until it addresses the security loopholes that have been found in its systems.

TransUnion Hong Kong branch CEO Neona Wang also informed lawmakers that the company had hired a third party to conduct a thorough review of its security application framework and related implementation.

The vulnerabilities were discovered last November when newspaper Ming Pao tested TransUnion’s system and found that it was able to obtain the credit files of a number of public figures, including Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor and Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po just by entering their publicly available information.
