US Tech Giants to Testify Before Senate Over Data Practices

US tech and telecoms companies including Google, Amazon, Apple, AT&T and Charter Communications are reportedly preparing for a grilling session with the Senate Commerce Committee over their data practices this week.

Committee Chairman John Thune said that “Consumers deserve clear answers and standards on data privacy protection.” However, it is said that the privacy legislation Thune is pushing for may not happen until next year.

Industry players are also seeking to shape the debate, with Google likely to release its own privacy framework ahead of the hearing.
